is it just me or did the grammy's die this year? what an over-produced, under-whelming let down. with the exeception of Kanye and Daft Punk's live version of their nominated collaboration "Stronger" bringing some much needed energy to the staples centre, the rest of the show dragged on with the over-exposure of one Alicia Keys, (as much a talent she is, did she really have to open and close the show - are we that devoid of show-stoppers now? - especially when the rockin' Foo's where pushed outside of the arena to play their killer set with orchestra in tow mid-ceremony.) old and tired Amy Winehouse jokes (really we get, she's a mess but the night is meant to be about the music right? does record of the year mean nothing to you people?) the cliched duet merger of the young, hot diva and the what ever happened to (Beyonce` and Tina Turner), and exhausting Beatles tributes (yes, we all loved them - please notice past tense). And don't even get me started on album of the year! Herbie Hancock's tribute to Joni Mitchell's collective work was a poignant and touching effort but come on - Back to Black was more worthy of that title and i may even go as far to say as even Kanye's "Graduation" had more passion and pride - god knows he does (did anyone score a pic of him when the envelope was read by the way? stupid camera cut aways! bet it was priceless!)
